Sunil Gavaskar
First to 10,000 Test runs and 774 on debut series in 1971
Overview
Gavaskar faced the fearsome West Indies quicks of the late 1970s without a helmet and made 13 of his 34 Test centuries against them. His 774 runs in the 1971 debut series in the Caribbean remains the record for a first series. He was the first to pass 10,000 Test runs, in 1983.
